Nestlé South Africa announces new partnership with Department of Sport and Recreation

Today, the Department of Sports and Recreation and Nestlé South Africa announced their partnership in a newly formed schools sports programme. The programme aims to develop football and netball skills of school-going children under the ages of 13.

Commencing on January 2014, the schools programme will target public schools throughout South Africa and aims to reach 15000 schools in the country by December 2014.

Nestlé South Africa, through its MILO brand, will become the official sponsor of the sports programme. The company has been involved in the development of schools football in South Africa for many years through its under/13 MILO Championships tournament.

“We are proud of this partnership with the Department of Sports and Recreation. As a Nutrition, Health and Wellness Company, this partnership further strengthens our commitment to promoting active and balanced lifestyles among children and will enable us to create more awareness about the importance of physical activity and good nutrition from an early age.” said Mpho Toolo, Business Executive Manager for Dairy, Nestlé South Africa.

Minister of Sports and Recreation, Mr Fikile Mbalula, said, “Sports and Recreation South Africa is ardent on increasing access to sport especially in public schools. We would also like children to consider sport as a possible career choice. We believe that through this partnership with Nestlé South Africa, we will continue the process of grooming our future stars, but more importantly raise healthier and more active future generations.”
